The Twelve Links of Interdependent Origination

"If you are a poet, you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper. Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain the trees cannot grow; and without trees, we cannot make paper. The cloud is essential for the paper to exist. If the cloud is not here, the sheet of paper cannot be here either. So we can say that the cloud and the paper “inter-are.” Thich Nhat Hahn

The twelve links of interdependent origination is a description of how things originate and how, because of various causes and conditions, proceed through twelve linked steps that lead back to a starting point.

On one level, the twelve links show us how our habitual patterns keep us stuck in “. . . a world of birth, of not getting what we want, getting what we don’t want, seeking but not finding, of sickness, aging and death.” The twelve links are like a map showing us how to find the gap that can lead us to liberate ourselves from this wheel of dissatisfaction.

Second Annual Prayers for Peace Mantra-Thon

CTBCC is joining our sister sangha from Chenrezig Tibetan Buddhist Center of Philadelphia in their Second Annual Prayers for Peace Mantra-Thon in honor of he U.N. International Day of Peace (https://internationaldayofpeace.org) and peace Day Philly (http://www.peacedayphilly.org). This Mantra-Thn is intended to give and receive blessings that create the conditions for peace for ourselves and our beloved cities of Philadelphia, El Paso and the world. With a strong intention for peace and a prolonged chanting of powerful mantras by a group of practitioners for over 4 hours in a sacred space, one can experience a heightened sense of awareness, compassion and inner calm that plants the seeds of love. It is an experience not to be missed!

You are welcome to come and leave at anytime during the Mantra-Thon.

White Tara Practice

White Tara mantra, when recited without distraction, enhances our health, strengthens our life force, and protects our mind. Visualize Tara’s blessings enter our body as purifying white light, purging negativities and illnesses as black smoke.  According to the FPMT, “this meditation can be done on behalf of oneself or others. It is frequently done to remove the obstacles to our gurus’ long lives and health. If one has experienced many health problems, accidents, depression, or a loss of 'lust for life', the practice of White Tara can be especially powerful.”

On Sundays, we have a meditation session at 11 am and a Dharma class on Shantideva's Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life at 12 noon. Hope you can join us for both events. We are serving pizzas at 1:30 pm.

After the practice around 3:30pm, you are welcome to stay for Dharma conversations over tea and desserts.

For the benefit of all beings!

Half-a-Day Silent Meditation

Each month we will use CTBCC's sacred space for half a day of silent meditation to deepen one’s practice and reflect within for a day. The half-a-Day experience is personal and intimate yet provides the support of a group setting. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, you are welcome to attend the half day or any sitting session.

The retreat will run from 12:00 to 4:00 pm and is divided into four 45-minute meditation sessions. There is a 15-minute break between each sitting for walking meditation and rest. A Sangha member will facilitate the retreat. (Please note the meditation sessions are not guided). Noble silence begins at 12:00 am and is observed throughout the afternoon. Tea will be provided. You may leave for lunch or bring your own.
